Let the storm be

Brainstorming should deserve the name: thoughts thrown wildly without considering what other ideas they crash into.

No immediate organising.
No instant judgment.
Just pure, chaotic idea generation.

When brainstorming with others, it's essential to be open-minded and respectful so the storm lasts as long as needed. Let the wild ideas blow through, then keep what remains when the air clears.

But what about when you’re alone?

For years, I was a little obsessed with categorising ideas as soon as I got them. It sounds hyper-organised, but sometimes the decision-making process kills ideas before they can develop.

Recently, I adopted the inbox approach. It delays the decision-making, but it allows me to work on raw ideas more freely.

If you don’t already have a dedicated space to brain dump, create it TODAY. Whether it's a Notion database, a voice memo folder, or a good old-fashioned notebook, give your ideas a place to land without requiring immediate decisions about what to do with them.

Next time you feel an inner storm brewing, capture it. Write, sketch, or voice record your thoughts without trying to solve them. Storms need to pass through before the sky clears up.
